Weather conditions and the geographical situation of the Aran Valley have helped this area to become a very special gastronomic destiny. It offers typical mountain and cold regions' cuisine apart from all fresh local produce.
There are more than 170 restaurants in this area and they invite you to taste both traditional dishes prepared with regional produce as well as new cuisine.
There are some very interesting places to visit and try. We recommend the following:
Caviar Nacarii is produced in the village of Les, in the Aran Valley. The fish farm is located at 700 metres above sea level, at the very heart of the Pyrenees. It is the only fish farm in the world which is located within a natural environment, surrounded by pure and clear waters coming from the thaw, basic ingredient for the best quality caviar. The guided tours around the production centre allow the visitor to find out and learn all the different steps that must be followed when producing caviar or sturgeon meat.
Hormatgería Tarrau, they produce some of the best cheeses in the whole of the Aran Valley. It is the highest cheese farm in the Pyrenees, situated in Bagergue at 1419 metres above sea level. The guided tour offers the visitor the possibility to see how this typical Aranese product is made and, of course, taste some of the most traditional and delicious pieces.
